HoCo Democratic Central Committee - 2018

With three weeks and multiple assignments left in my program, I asked Slats if he would mind penning a guest post this week.  He informed me…using expressive language completely unsuitable for a family column such as this… that he was "neck-deep in Vappu planning" which told me he 1) is currently in Finland (or so he would have me believe) and 2) could not be bothered.

Fair enough.  Let him take Uber next time he alights from a plane at some Podunk regional airport.

So here is a brief post on the Howard County Democratic Central Committee race.

For those of you old enough to recall the 1992 U.S. men’s Olympic basketball team, they were known as the “Dream Team.”  This, of course, is the moniker they stole from President Lincoln’s Cabinet.  Doris Kearns Goodwin later rebranded them as the “Team of Rivals,” books were published, money was made, and scores were settled.  C’est la vie.

Fast forward to the present day and a new Dream Team:  Howard County’s own HoCo Forward slate.  For their platform and biographies, I strongly recommend visiting their page, which is: https://www.hocoforward.com/

In these times, it is more important than ever to give these down-ticket races a considerable amount of attention and mindful reflection.  The individuals elected to these posts will help shape the future of HoCo politics for years to come. This is why this blog is proud to endorse for the Central Committee, in (mostly) alphabetical order, the following candidates:

“Democratic Central Committee – Female” (vote for no more than 10)

-       Maureen Evans Arthurs
-       Mae Beale
-       Ethel Brown-Hill
-       Mary Catherine Cochran
-       Candace Dodson-Reed
-       Maura Cleary Dunnigan
-       Safa Hira
-       Jennifer Jones
-       (and...while not a part of the HoCo Forward team): Margaret Weinstein
-       Undecided if I will be voting for a 10th candidate

“Democratic Central Committee – Male” (vote for no more than 10)

-       Najee Bailey
-       Scott Berkowitz
-       Jeremy Eldridge
-       Tim Lattimer
-       Shahan Rizvi
-       Dhaval Shah
-       Herbie Smith
-       Peter Spann
-       (and…while not a part of the HoCo Forward team): Bob Ford
-       Undecided if I will be voting for a 10th candidate

I strongly encourage all of my progressive HoCo friends to vote for the HoCo Forward team.  Not only are they skilled operatives and party-builders, they are concerned and knowledgeable about issues.  That combination of talents can be hard to find. These 16 candidates, plus the two others I mentioned, would constitute an excellent Central Committee team.

In solidarity.
